The Latin phrase "Nosce te ipsum et nosces universum et deos" ("Know thyself and you will know the universe and the gods") is a translation (and extension) of a legend found by Pausanias in the courtyard of the Greek temple of Apollo in the city of Delphi, and which originally read "947; 957; 969; 952; 953; 963; 949; 945; 965; 964; 959; 957;» ( gnothi seautón "know thyself" ) ), along with other aphorisms also known as « 956; 951; 948; 949; 957; 945; 947; 945; 957;» ( Medén Agan "nothing too much") .
